Happy Monday blog friends!
Christmas is rapidly approaching, and that means that it’s time to start scrambling to figure out what you’re going to wear for all of the holiday events and activities you have planned for the next two weeks! I’ve seen lots of gorgeous dresses hitting people’s blogs and Instagram’s (you can check out the one I’ll be rocking this season here!), but sometimes you need an outfit that isn’t going to break the bank. Today I’m sharing my second instalment in my series of The $30 Outfit! If you’re not familiar with it (you can check out the first post here), it’s basically where I hunt all over the city to put together an outfit for an occasion where everything is under $30. Yep, that means the WHOLE outfit, including all accessories, costs me less than $30. It might sound impossible, but my goal is to prove to you that you can rock any party this holiday season and not have to spend a lot of money. My first Under $30 was a fall date night look, so today we’re going to dive right in and put together a festive holiday look!
I knew I wanted something feminine and fairly classic (nobody loves a dated holiday family photo, amiright?!), and I’ve been loving midi skirts lately, so I knew I wanted to do a look with a skirt. Other than that, I didn’t have a ton of direction when I started looking for an outfit under $30. The first piece I found was a skirt from Old Navy. I found it in the back of the sale section without a tag, and it had a pretty metallic finish on it that’s both trendy and festive. I got a sales associate to do a price check on it and she told me that with the 60% off that Old Navy is having until the end of December, the grand total was…$2!! Seriously! So, I snatched that up right away and went on my hunt for the rest of the look.
The top I found is from H&M and was the most expensive piece of this look at $15. I wanted something that had some detail but wouldn’t distract from the rest of the outfit, which I intended to be a bit more statement-y (I know that isn’t a word, but bear with me). It has cute ruffle details up the front and back, and I thought it went well for the holidays and also has good re-wear potential.
My favourite part of this outfit is the shoes. My lord, the shoes! They’re grey lace-up heels with velvet laces that tie gorgeously in the back (see, you can be super frugal and on trend too! ;). I picked them up at Winners for a grand total of $8 including tax, so I was REALLY happy about that. These shoes will work with lots of outfits, so I thought they were a great buy. Bit of a funny story though, I actually bought THE EXACT SAME SHOES in pink a few months back at a little boutique and they cost me $60. When I found the grey pair for $8, I was all “wow, what a great dupe of the ones I have at home!” and then I got home and realized that they are literally the same pair, just in a different colour. So, long story short, I’m happy I got these guys but now I’m kinda annoyed about paying $52 more for the pink ones…oh well, at least my fashion tastes are consistent 😉
I knew this look needed some bling up top, so I paired an old statement necklace (which I bought for $2) with a pair of earrings that I got at Forever21 ($1) to add some sparkle. Everyone loves some sparkle at Christmas, right?! I know I do 🙂
So, after doing all of the math, this entire look cost me exactly $28! The skirt was $2, the top was $15, the shoes were $8, and the jewellery was $3. I’m really happy with how this look came out and I definitely think people wouldn’t know that it was under $30 without being told! I haven’t included the links to these items because Winners, H&M, and Old Navy really vary their merchandise from area to area and I didn’t want to let anyone down, but I know you can find similar pieces in these stores at the same price point if you’re interested in replicating this look!
I hope this second instalment of my Under $30 Series was fun for you to read (it was fun to shop for!) and encourages you to know that you really can look great this holiday season at any budget 🙂
