I get it. You’re feeling the squeeze with the holidays approaching and lots of presents to buy, but you still want to look trendy because you’ve #earnedit. What if you could get some clothes for free and still be able to afford presents for Ma and Pa that aren’t from the dollar store? Sound too good to be true? Well, I promise it isn’t.
I got the idea to write this post after I found out that I won a $50 gift card in a contest I didn’t even know I entered. Trust me, it can be that easy! Today I’ve rounded up 4 ways to score free clothes that I’m super excited to share with you!
- Instagram Giveaways – I’m sure you see these guys pop up a lot in your Instagram feed, and you probably think you have a zero chance of actually winning anything. Well, I wholeheartedly disagree. I’ve helped to host a few of these “loop giveaways” (the ones where you go from person to person in order to be entered) and I’ll give you some tips of standing a better chance of winning. First, choose a blogger/instagramer who you love and enter every giveaway that they host. I’m way more likely to submit someone as my nominee if I’ve seen them pop up on my notifications list before. Secondly, include a picture of your face in your profile and then make sure your account is public when you enter. I’m a lot more likely to submit someone as my pick if I can learn a little bit about them by looking at their profile (i.e.: they’re a new grad like me, a hardworking nurse, a busy mom, etc). Giving a host a peek into your life will majorly increase your likelihood of getting selected. Once you get selected as someone’s nominee, then your chances of winning are really good, usually 1:30, depending on the giveaway and how many people are hosting.
- Online Contests – This is how I won my $50 gift card! Often companies will have online contests where you’re entered to win some of their merchandise just by tagging them on a photo online. I tagged this green dress when I posted it on my Instagram page, and then got a DM a few days later from the company saying I was selected as the “best dressed” customer for October and got sent a $50 gift card. Score!
- Offer to Model for a Company – Now, this one may not be for everyone. However, if you’re not afraid of being in front of the camera, many local shops are moving away from having traditional models demonstrate their clothing, opting instead for more of a “real girl” look. You can visit them and pitch the opportunity of wearing (and keeping a few) of their items in return for letting them use your photos on their website and social media. I’ve done this with a few companies and it’s worked out really well for both parties! Be prepared that you may hear a few “no”s from some stores, but be persistent and you’ll definitely find a store that would love to have you model their stuff!
- Sign up for Loyalty Programs – I’ve chatted about this in a post before, but loyalty programs at places you regularly shop should be your best friends. Free stuff is awesome, and if you’re going to be buying merchandise from a store anyway, it makes sense to be rewarded! Programs such as Nordstrom Notes and Ebates will give you cash back that you can use to get free clothing, which is AMAZING (check out the linked post above for more details on how to save money while shopping!). Just be careful that you’re signing up for a loyalty card and not a store credit card, because that’s a whole other beast that you want to stay away from. Just take my word for it.
Have you ever gotten free clothing? I’d love to hear in the comments or over on social media! Don’t forget to check back on Thursday for another dose of Divinely Devin. I’ve got something in the works that I can’t wait to share with you all! 🙂
