Hello everyone! I hope you’re surviving the Monday so far! I thought I’d try a bit of a different post today, and please let me know what you think of it in the comments below or over on social media 🙂
Growing up, I could never find a redhead on the internet who looked just like me. Of course, no one looks EXACTLY like anyone else, but I could never find someone with the same freckles, or hair shade, or hair texture. It was always a bit frustrating trying to find makeup and hair styles that suited me when there wasn’t really anyone I could relate to online, or be able to see what something would look like on me.
Case in point, I once watched this YouTuber do this amazing eye shadow tutorial and immediately went out and bought the exact same products to recreate the look on me (I know, so gullible to advertising). Anyway, I spent all of this money and when I tried it on myself, it looked AWFUL. I was so disappointed, and have always been a bit skeptical about following online makeup and hair advice from people ever since because the results can be so different on redheads.
** Please note that I do not personally find the term “ginger” to be offensive, and do not intend to offend anyone by using it here.
All of this rambling is leading up to me announcing that I’ve long been wanting to share some of my own “ginger tips” if you will, in the hopes that some other poor redheaded girl with freckles and frizzy, curly hair will have someone to look at for makeup and clothing suited to them. It sounds funny, but there definitely are some clothing items that are better for gingers than others 😉
So, today I thought I’d share my 5 favourite colours to wear as a pale, freckly redhead, along with some justification as to why I love them (and why you will, too)!
Forest Green – This colour is so flattering on pale skin, and since it’s opposite to red on the colour wheel they go together really nicely.
Purple – It’s universally flattering on every skin tone, but even more so on redheads as it pops nicely against the gold tones in our hair. It’s also great because it helps to minimize the red undertones in our skin that can be so annoying sometimes!
Maroon/Wine – I love wearing wine colours (I think the proper term is maroon, but “wine” just sounds fancier) because the darker red colours really bring out the orange in red hair.
Blue – Blue and orange are complimentary colours, so wearing this colour really brings out the orange undertones in our hair. I don’t know what it is, but I always get compliments when I wear a jewel toned blue, pictured below.
Black – There’s some controversy about this one, but I’m a firm believer that black is a fantastic colour on redheads. It definitely creates a stark contrast against pale skin, but that can be stunning, especially with a gorgeous mane of red to add some warmth. Just be sure to pop on a little blush and bronzer so your face isn’t translucent 😉
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this post! I’m planning on doing some about hair and makeup specifically in the future, so let me know if you’re interested in that. If you know a redhead, feel free to pass this along to them as well 🙂 Caring is sharing!
